Ex Military Forums

Had an email from a forum I occasionally visit, informing me that the forum is to close down tomorrow Monday 13th August.

Since I retired from the military in 1993, I have enjoyed several of these forums, meeting some characters and generally having a bit of banter and some nostalgic moments. The forum that I count as the best of its type was the Biscuitsbrown one, where the site owner had the knack of creating great topics and was also a friendly place to be.

But unfortunately Biscuitsbrown had to close down. The bulk of the members were transferred to another new site, Servicepals, again this site closed recently.

It would appear that the days of exciting ex military forums are at a premium and nothing I have seen so far have come anywhere near to Biscuitsbrown.

Rain

After 2 months of scorching hot temperatures and the garden taking a hit, it started raining on Friday with accompanying thunder and lightning, Saturday was back to hot sun again, but rained in the evening, today it has rained non stop. At least it has soaked the dried up garden and cooler temps at night for an easier sleep. Forecast is for more heatwave next week, so summer is still with us.

Vaping

Have been using vaping for some time now, kicked the cigarettes and have been using the least nicotine level for some time. Today as I had just run out of e-liquid, I bought some Menthol flavour liquid with no nicotine content, so slowly kicking the nicotine habit. Back home tried the new liquid, and it is fine.

Plastic Model Decals

Last year I needed some out of print decals, so bought some inkjet water slide decal paper. Found the images I needed and printed them out, so far so good. Had to spray the prints with acrylic lacquer to seal them from when soaked in water. Got the job done and a satisfactory job on my model.

A year later, the decals have faded so badly that I need to replace them. Spoke to the local Colour Graphics chap today and he said he would print an A4 sheet for £1, so have ordered some laser water slide paper 5 x White and 5 x Clear, worth a try.

Should arrive next week, so will let you know how it goes.

Took the new paper and artwork down to Color Grafix and they said that they could not risk damaging the Laser printer drum as the paper looked a bit too glossy in their opinion. Suggested try a home laser printer. Given up the idea now, just glad the new paper was not expensive.

ipad

Bought my wife an iPad for Christmas from eBay and one of the cameras has stopped working. Tried a factory reset and still not sorted. Contacted the seller on eBay and after being told to do a few resets which did not solve the problem. The seller has agreed to replace the iPad and currently trying to source another before I have to return the u/s one.

I reported the problem to the seller 5th June and by the 10th they started trying to source the replacement. Contacted them on the 14th June asking for a progress report but not had a reply since.

Hopefully this will get resolved before I have to ask eBay to take up the case. The iPad had a 12month warranty from the vendor.

Had an online chat with eBay last week and because of the time frame covered by eBay and Paypal, they are unable to do anything to help. A seller report on the vendor will be compiled and that is about it. No emails in response to my queries since 10th June, so looks like I am stuck with the ipad..

My next move is to leave follow up feedback and warn others of the way I have been dealt with by

europa-depot.

Premium Bonds

Opened my mail this morning to find I had won another prize of £50 this month. It is normally a £25 prize most months, so am well pleased. Of all the safe investments I think that Premium bonds pay out more than any savings account or bank account interest, well worth the investment.

Forgotten

Dug out this tie the other day, it was a gift from my younger brother Chic when he worked out in Saudi at Tabuk, a RSAF Lightning tie with logo. Over the years whilst in the RAF, I collected pin badges from units either stationed at or visiting stations.
