Web site

My website which has been running for a while, mainly built to try and drum up some business in the photo restoration field, has not been very successful and have decided to redesign the site with a view to documenting my 22 year RAF career. I already have a pdf file which will be used to copy and paste from. This may generate some interest and if not, may well be time to ditch the site altogether. Have made a start on the first page

Content now complete, just some minor details to add.

A touch of winter

Yesterday the weather took on a near winter temperature which has continued today. Cold damp and not conducive to outdoor activity. Managed to capture this rainbow before it disappeared.

Prep for Winter weather

Now that the first frosts have arrived, it was time to tidy up the greenhouse of old dead plants, remove weeds and empty the green waste buckets, nice and sunny and warm in the greenhouse, so a nice day to do it.

The exterior garden hose, all wrapped up and disconnected from the tap, stowed in the greenhouse. The water supply to the exterior tap is now isolated to stop any freeze damage in the event of extreme cold this winter.

All our dahlias have given months of flowers of unusually large blooms, lots still flowering, so dead headed them all and hope they keep flowering a bit longer.

Hedge cutting

Annual hedge cutting done for yet another year, used a pair of hand shears, so arms and shoulders ache. Looks a lot tidier and ready for the winter.

New Car

We have been looking for a new car for a while, checked out a few Vauxhall cars and decided on an SUV Mokka design/nav 1.4 turbo petrol model 2018 reg with delivery mileage. Reason for change being a higher seating position and the fact our Astra is quite a few years old now. We should pick up the new car at the weekend hopefully.

Car was picked up on Saturday morning by my wife, I had a test drive on Sunday to get the hang of all the new bells and whistles. Found it a great car to drive, very smooth ride. Took a couple of stops to get the hang of the stop/start function, but am really pleased with this car. Spent the rest of Saturday clearing out all the junk from our old Astra and gave it a wash. My grand daughter is now the Astra owner and she is well happy with it.

Ex Military Forums

Had an email from a forum I occasionally visit, informing me that the forum is to close down tomorrow Monday 13th August.

Since I retired from the military in 1993, I have enjoyed several of these forums, meeting some characters and generally having a bit of banter and some nostalgic moments. The forum that I count as the best of its type was the Biscuitsbrown one, where the site owner had the knack of creating great topics and was also a friendly place to be.

But unfortunately Biscuitsbrown had to close down. The bulk of the members were transferred to another new site, Servicepals, again this site closed recently.

It would appear that the days of exciting ex military forums are at a premium and nothing I have seen so far have come anywhere near to Biscuitsbrown.

After 2 months of scorching hot temperatures and the garden taking a hit, it started raining on Friday with accompanying thunder and lightning, Saturday was back to hot sun again, but rained in the evening, today it has rained non stop. At least it has soaked the dried up garden and cooler temps at night for an easier sleep. Forecast is for more heatwave next week, so summer is still with us.
